The human rights of climate and environmental displaced persons

Initiative of the International Centre for Comparative Environmental Law (CIDCE), an international NGO in special consultative status with ECOSOC, accredited to the United Nations Assembly for the environment and its subsidiary bodies and an official partner of the OIF.
The direct and indirect effects of climate change and the multiple natural disasters associated with it are causing an increasing number of people to flee their homes. However, the international refugee law of the Geneva Convention does not apply to them. There is therefore a serious loophole that undermines the human rights of these populations, largely in the countries of the South.
The aim of the side event will be to take stock of initiatives to guarantee the human rights of environmental displacement and the prospects for implementing the climate convention and the Paris agreement.
